SUBANG, 17 MAY 2013 – MASkargo crowned Schenker Logistics (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. as the highest tonnage contributor for the fourth consecutive year at its annual Megatonners Awards, dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of the Malaysian cargo industry.

The overall winner received stiff competition from second runner-up, Nippon Express (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and third placed, DHL Global Forwarding (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. Another industry accolade for Most Improved MASkargo Appointed Agent was secured by the Penang branch of Panalpina Transport (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.

Present at the prestigious award ceremony were Secretary-General, Ministry of Transport, YBhg. Datuk Seri Long See Wool and Group CEO of Malaysia Airlines, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, who were hosted by Mohd Yunus Idris, CEO of MASkargo together with his team.

As host of the event Mohd Yunus outlined the company’s focus for the current year, in particular; - investing in emerging and niche markets, top quality customer services, cost saving initiatives and efficiency in operational process.

In his speech Mohd Yunus said, “I am gratified that MASkargo is given the opportunity to play the role of a facilitator for the positive growth of the Malaysian economy. We are constantly looking at ways to provide efficient trade links with Malaysia’s economic partners. Moving forward, we are strategically moving cargo on other One World carriers to reach global markets beyond Malaysia Airlines and MASkargo destination points.”

He added, “After winning the award for a number of consecutive years, we applaud tonight’s champion for their commitment in sustaining their top spot for this year. Everyone has demonstrated a series of advancements across their logistics business over the last twelve months. These include progress in quality and performance initiatives, technological innovation, sustainable compliance with changing regulations, network expansions and investment in key markets.”

Speaking at the opening, Ahmad Jauhari said “Last year, our cargo division contributed approximately 14% to the group’s total revenue and we are excited to hear about more accomplishments from MASkargo.”

He commented further, “Aviation is indeed a tricky industry. The International Air Transport Association announced full-year traffic data for 2012 showing a 1.5% fall for cargo. Therefore, we must try our best to seize every opportunity to keep our customers happy as well as remain competitive in an industry that is moving rapidly towards the future.”

The Megatonners Awards is organized annually by MASkargo to appreciate its agents business - for their invaluable support and key contribution towards MASkargo’s success.

Top performing freight forwarding agents from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kuching as well as from Taipei and Bangkok attended the 17th edition of the award night where each received a unique plaque for their relentless support.
