Kuala Lumpur International Airport, 21 MAY 2014 - MASkargo has successfully transported a pair of giant pandas from China to Kuala Lumpur this morning.

FuWa and FengYi were onboard MASkargo’s own A330-200 freighter, a 2-year-old aircraft bearing the registration number 9M-MUD. Flight MH 6462 made a special ferry flight to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) at 0145hrs from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) before heading to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) with the precious cargo.

Upon arrival, the panda pair was warmly welcomed by Y.B Datuk Seri G. Palanival, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment; and HE Huang Huikang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia.

Mohd Yunus Idris, CEO of MASkargo who was present at the handover ceremony for FuWa and FengYi in Chengdu was also onboard flight MH 6462. He said “In a development that augurs well for Malaysia, we are proud to be a part of such a significant event. It is an honor for MASkargo to transport one of the national treasures of the Republic of China to Malaysia.”

With almost 20 years of experience, MASkargo Animal Hotel is well equipped with the expertise and knowledge on live animal handling and transportation.

Mohd Yunus added “The staffs at Animal Hotel undergo regular trainings to keep themselves updated with the latest know-how on both safety and animal welfare pertaining to shipments of live animals by air. In the past, we have transported exotic animals such as sea lions, tiger sharks, baby giraffes and rhinoceros to name a few. Our vast experience in pet and animal transportation has accorded MASkargo with a membership in the IATA Live Animal Board.”

Flight MH 6462 was piloted by Captain Hamdan Che Ismail and co-pilot Imran bin Ahmad. Dr. Li of the China Wildlife Conservation Association and Dr. Naim Zainuddin of Zoo Negara were onboard the flight to ensure the wellbeing of the giant pandas.
