MASkargo Names Nippon Express as Best Freight Forwarder Again in MTA2006

PETALING JAYA (Malaysia), 27 April 2007 - Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo) has once again named Nippon Express (M) Sdn Bhd as its top overall freight forwarder at the 2006 Mega Tonners Award Presentation, held at Sunway Lagoon Resort and Spa here tonight.

The second overall winner went to Bax Global Logistics Sdn Bhd (Penang) while Kintetsu Integrated Air Services Sdn Bhd (Kuala Lumpur) bagged the third prize.

The winners received a specially designed pewter award in the shape of a Unit Load Device (ULD) and a certificate each. For the top three agents however, an additional First Class Malaysia Airlines tickets to an overseas destination were also given as a token of the company's appreciation towards their endless support.

Presenting the awards to the winners tonight were the Deputy Minister of Transport, YBM Dato' Seri Tengku Azlan Ibni Sultan Abu Bakar, accompanied closely by chairman of MASkargo, Dato' N. Sadasivan, Managing Director Malaysia Airlines, Mr Idris Jala and Malaysia Airlines Senior General Manager Cargo, Dato J J Ong.

Also present were MASkargo senior management, senior government officials, top industry players and various government representatives.

In his welcome address, Chairman of MASkargo, Dato' N. Sadasivan said that the event held tonight brings together freight forwarding agents from all over Malaysia, especially the major domestic markets, comprising of Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak and even Singapore.

"Our recognition to these agents is in line with our aim to reward those who contributed significantly to MASkargo's outstanding growth throughout the past year," he said.

A total of 38 agents received the award this year, including 19 from Kuala Lumpur, 10 from Penang, three from Singapore, three from Kuching, two from Tawau and one from Sandakan.

Representing Malaysia Airlines was Managing Director Mr Idris Jala who said that MASkargo's profitable year and positive growth in 2006 was the result of strong leadership and a strong relationship with all the shippers, forwarding agents and government agencies.

In his brief speech at the award ceremony, Deputy Minister of Transport, YBM Dato' Seri Tengku Azlan Ibni Sultan Abu Bakar said that he is confident that the government's strategy in developing KLIA as a strategic load centre and regional hub will be a resounding success with the support given by forwarding agents, shippers, other agencies and MASkargo.

Apart from the award presentation ceremony, guests were also treated to performances by Hands Percussion Group and famous local Jazzbird Noryn Aziz. A part of the night was also dedicated to a Lucky Draw segment whereby guests tried their luck in walking with air tickets to Shanghai and Manila.

MASkargo, the air cargo division of Malaysia Airlines managed to maintain its position as one of the top three air cargo carriers in Asia, for the fifth consecutive year in the annual Air Freight and Supply Chain Awards or AFSCA ceremony in Macau last Wednesday.

Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo), the air cargo division of Malaysia Airlines, operates four B747-200 and two B747-400 freighters covering the world's major cargo hubs. It also offers belly space capacity on Malaysia Airlines passenger fleet serving almost 100 destinations worldwide.

At KLIA, its home base is the Advanced Cargo Centre, a 108-acre complex designed specially for MASkargo's sophisticated state-of-the-art cargo handling facilities and recognized as major regional cargo hub.
