MASkargo Achieves ISO 9001: 2000 for Cargo Complex in Kota Kinabalu
Issued on 22 May 2008

KOTA KINABALU (Malaysia), 22 May 2008 – Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo) received a boost when it was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System certification for its cargo complex here today.

The services receiving the certification from SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd (SIRIM QAS) are the Ground Handling services, Warehousing services as well as the Charter and Planning unit.

Presenting the awards at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort was the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Masidi Manjun, accompanied by Managing Director of MASkargo, Shahari Sulaiman.

Shahari said the ISO certification adds another feather to MASkargo’s cap as the cargo division strives to improve its services in order to strengthen its current position as among Asia’s best air cargo carriers.

In the last two years, MASkargo has developed several world-class initiatives in the airfreight industry, and the company would like to see these innovations manualised to allow its staff to be trained properly.

"Thus the ISO certification is the perfect vehicle to rationalize this as well as to realize concepts that MASkargo has developed over the past two years," he said.

Shahari is confident that the ISO certification will further enhance MASkargo's position as a world-class, reputable and reliable player in the global airfreight industry.

The ISO 9001:2000 certification will allow MASkargo to provide enhanced service quality, improve staff efficiency and continue its commitment in meeting the company’s quality objectives and vision.

The Planning and Charter service, a critical business unit under the wings of the Business Development and Sales, will also benefit greatly from the ISO 9001 certification. It controls MASkargo’s fleet of freighter aircrafts for any kind of special cargo transportation needs or personalized cargo movement to any part of the world.

Among the benefits include upgrading of service quality, ability to provide consistent products that meets customer and applicable requirements, prevention of non-conformity to customer requirements; improvement of efficiency and effectiveness of operations and increased marketability within domestic and global markets.

It will also assist in MASkargo’s cost saving efforts as well contribute to the continuous improvement of services and facilities, and will go a long way on enhancing staff skills and competency.
