Sepang ( December 2007) Malaysia Airlines and its Cargo subsidiary MASkargo rallied to dispatch 3 tonnes of flood relief items for Pahang on its flight to Kuantan this morning.
The relief items packed in more than 200 boxes, comprised essential food items like rice, sugar, mineral water, nutritional beverages, canned food, biscuits, and baby food that were donated by staff of the national carrier and its Cargo division in a 10-day campaign for this cause.
A team of staff from Malaysia Airlines and MASkargo, together with Executive Director/ Chief Financial Officer, Tengku Dato' Azmil Zahruddin and MASkargo Managing Director Encik Shahari Sulaiman, were present this morning at KLIA to dispatch the relief items onto a Malaysia Airlines B737 flight that left for Kuantan at 0910 hours.
Tengku Dato' Azmil said, "We extend our deepest sympathies to all affected by this natural calamity.
As a caring corporate citizen, we are doing our part to alleviate the sufferings of the affected rakyat.
Our prayers are with them and their families, and we do hope that the situation will stabilise soon.
"Malaysia Airlines is also providing similar help in the state of Johor and Kelantan through its offices in Johor Bahru and Kota Bahru.
Malaysia Airlines and MASkargo have regularly partnered the Malaysian government and non-government organisations in relief and rebuilding efforts.
The airline donated RM200,000.00 to the National Disaster Relief Fund in aid of the 2004 tsunami victims, and together with its cargo subsidiary, airlifted critical items to Islamabad after the earthquake in Pakistan, and sent relief aid teams to provide assistance to earthquake victims in Jogjakarta last year.
The national carrier also donated RM100,000.00 and MASkargo trucked contributions of staff to Johor for flood relief efforts last year.
