CC/MR/PR 139.07 To: Business/Economic Desk Editors STATEMENT BY MALAYSIA AIRLINES
On 27 December 2007, Malaysian Airline System Bhd ("MAS") and Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd were served with a "Statement of Objections" from the European Commission in relation to its air freight investigation under Article 81 of the European Community ("EC") Treaty, the general prohibition against anti-competitive behavior. Similar documents were also served to a number of other airlines.
The Statement of Objections is a routine stage in the European Commission's investigations under the said Article 81 and is not a final determination of an infringement.
Nor does the Statement of Objections indicate any quantum of fines that might be ultimately imposed.
The MAS group of companies ("MAS Group") has a policy of compliance with all applicable laws, including competition laws, in their countries of operation.
The MAS Group is taking legal advice in relation to the European Commission investigation. - End -
