KUALA LUMPUR, 26 FEBRUARY 2013 – Keeping in line with their strategies to expand their network reach, MASkargo and Silk Way Airlines of Azerbaijan have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation that will strengthen their competitive edge within the aviation industry.

 
The agreement paves the way for greater collaboration between the airlines on cargo space agreements, ground handling and line maintenance. 
 
Both airlines will have access to each other’s capacity throughout their global networks, based on existing sharing and block space agreements of the two airlines.
 
Speaking at the signing ceremony, MASkargo CEO Mohd Yunus Idris said “The signing of the memorandum of cooperation between Silk Way Airlines and MASkargo signifies a collaboration that will enhance each other’s network and meet their market needs’.
 
 
“It will allow MASkargo to have a wider presence globally especially in the Commonwealth of Independent States or CIS region. Likewise, this collaboration presents an invaluable opportunity for Silk Way Airlines to strengthen their position within the Intra-Asia network. Customers of Silk Way Airlines will enjoy a strengthen network within Asia, which provides more choices and flexibility for their valued customers” he added.
 
With Baku, capital city of Azerbaijan, as a transit centre, MASkargo hopes to develop bilateral relations and build a cooperative framework in the cargo business - given the country’s growing economy and potential in air transportation. 
 
Mohd Yunus also noted “Based on the combination of flights from MASkargo and Silk Way Airlines, both parties will combine their efforts to promote Baku and Kuala Lumpur as a transit point and a regional hub.
 
Rapidly becoming one of the fastest growing economies in the region, the backbone industry of Azerbaijan is oil and gas with a booming industry in construction and agriculture.
 
Equipped with the state-of-the-art cargo terminal at its hub, it plays a vital role being part of the Silk Road project – a trade route for goods travelling from Europe to Asia and vice versa.
