Maskargo Pioneers in Malaysia for IATA’s DG Autocheck
- 1 September 2021
MASkargo, the cargo business arm of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), has become the first airline and Cargo Terminal Operator in Malaysia to adopt the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Dangerous Goods AutoCheck (DG AutoCheck) platform for the acceptance of dangerous goods shipments.
DG AutoCheck is a digital solution that enables airlines, ground handlers and freight forwarders to automatically check the compliance of the Shipper’s Declaration for Dangerous Goods (DGD) against all relevant provisions of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. It facilitates the verification of the packages’ marks and labels on dangerous goods consignments.
On the average, MASkargo handles more than 50,000tonnes of DG annually. As cargo types get more sophisticated and complex due to customers’ demands and needs, this digital tool will greatly assist MASkargo in improving the DG handling procedures. IATA’s innovative solution will help MASkargo further enhance safety and improve efficiency in the handling of dangerous goods.
“IATA’s DG AutoCheck solution will be a great asset especially on the safety perspective of our operations. With trained personnel employing the system, we are moving closer to our end goal of a fully automated warehouse. Our customers will definitely benefit from the efficiency of this system”, said Mohd. Zulkeflly Ujang, MASkargo’s Chief Operations Officer.
“We are pleased that MASkargo has selected IATA DG AutoCheck to automate its Dangerous Goods compliance check. The air transport industry handles more than 1.25 million dangerous goods shipments on an annual basis. The adoption of modern and harmonized standards is essential to facilitate safe, secure and efficient operations, particularly in relation to carriage of dangerous goods. DG AutoCheck allows users to improve safety, enhance handling processes and reduce costs, especially those related to non-compliance of shipments,” said Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Operations Safety and Security.
MASkargo will start using the DG AutoCheck system at the Advanced Cargo Centre on 1 September 2021.
